Abstract

The “Round Table Discussion on Skin Aging and Assessment Standards” was held on September 27, 2014 in Beijing, organized by Chinese Aging/Anti-Aging Committee of Chinese Gerontological Society and jointly sponsored by the Dermatological Department of the First Hospital of China Medical University. The meeting was co-chaired by Professor Xinghua Gao and Professor Yanqiu Yu. On this occasion, speakers from Germany, Japan and Korea introduced the research projects and assessment criteria for the aging epidermis in their own countries. Heated discussions were centered on “How to Establish an Assessment System for the Aging skin in China”. Twenty four Chinese experts, including renowned dermatologist Hongduo Chen, voiced their comments on this occasion. It was widely believed that the health issues for the aging society in China and elsewhere are important challenges as well as opportunities; the lack of criteria for the aging skin of the elderly in China’s dermatological field is not only related to the lack of clinical or preventive medicines but also calls for the trade regulations on emerging aging/anti-aging technologies like the skin aging caused by light and their planned developments. It is the duty and responsibility of the Chinese dermatological workers to establish a scientific and applicable system to assess the aging skin in China. A working group, led by Academician Hongduo Chen as the advisor and Professor Xinghua Gao as the head, was formed to coordinate the efforts of the dermatological experts and also those in the aging/anti-aging field with the goal to establish the Assessment System of the Aging Skin in China.
